A380-800 Peter's Aircraft TESTED (translated by Angelo)

It’s been long time since i wrote my last test review on the blog but, today, is the right moment to do another test on the amazing Peter’s A380 that i used to fly during my Long Haul Tour 2012 as i guess you already know!!=)

Anyone who is already able to fly a Boeing, must study a little bit more the manuals of the A380 if wants to fully enjoy it but let’s go to see more info about that:

Firts of all the plane is available at this link

The price is quite high, is about 60 euro without 3D panel that includes all the liveries made by Peter; the 3D panel is an optional and the price is 15 euro!

Notice: in this review i used the 2D version, for the 3D one’s lets stay tuned on the blog, as soon as i can i will write down few words about the 3D panel!

The first thing i did was to create a folder named “ Super Heavy Metal” as this is the correct mention of the aircraft; the version you’ll download from the site will let you install the aircraft properly for X-Plane 9, buti f you want to fly it with X-Plane 10 do not worry, there is a little patch available on the main board of the website that i linked you before.
The installation procedure is the same as every plane you already installed!
Once you have installed the plane properly Peter suggest you to set up your joystick if you would like to completely enjoy it as he suggest to read his advices that will let you start up the plane from “Cold and Dark condition” without any difficulties; you can assigne for example a button for the Battery 1 that let you turn on the light to see all the instrument panel’s, for the rest you can continue the procedure by using the mouse.
The 2D panel is  wide enough to see all the informations availables on the displays.

As i mentioned before the first impression on this plane will appear quite strange; let’s take an example fot the Automatic Pilot: the one on the airbus has less keys compared to the Boeing and the 2D panel wont let you  understand by the first moments its working because if you take the HDG key you can immediately notice that it can be rotaded and pushed as for the Boeing but the difference is that it can be even pulled! If you do so , you see that you activate the Nav mode.
With the 2D panel doing this procedure seems quite difficult and is just for this that Peter used a trick: you can do it by simply push a little bit higher on the HDG key (this movement represent the Pull procedure)….let’s take a look on the image below!

About the navigation system Peter and his staff  did an amazing job for the “software” aspect of the plane as the first moments during the start up procedure will be dedicated to plan the flight management computer.
It is necessary set the V1, Vr, V2 during the take off procedure, the Transition Altitude, the cruise speed, QNH when arriving and at the end the altitudes for a possible missing approach: all these things are monitored by a plug in  that give us all the information we need to do a correct flight...
The Throttle here means fly-by wire and to understand it let’s have a look on the follow image =)

this one refers to an A320 and not to an A380 but the working is still the same; if you see up to the left you can observe that the throttle has differents positions: e.g. the 0 position stand for “idle”, the start up position! We have furthermore an autotrhottle position, another one for the T.O., one for the G.A. than we have the throttle manual position and the one for the reverse.
Take off, cruise, descending and landing are monitored by all the info you have already set in the MFC during the start up procedure :
if you pay attention on the picture below you see that on the PFD there is a green light stand for “land”: this means that the computer is monitoring the landing procedure…what a great job!

For the ones like me that usually prefer doing the SID and STAR procedures manually i strongly recommend to use the UFMC by Cortez and this because the nav 1 and 2 keys are managed by the computer  and so you cannot activate or deactivate the one or the other.

The passengers area’s is not present on the plane and the liveries are not well detailed.

Conclusion:
it is certainly a particular “experience” flying an Airbus and above all the one of Peter’s.
For my personal opinion this plane must be used for the loung routes even because in this case you can get from this plane the best!
If you want to understand how an airbus works oyou can even try the QPAC!

I finally you propose a video where you can see the 3D panel of this fantastic plane with the “Emirates” livery!

I’m waiting for your questions, comments are appreciate from everyone!!!thanks folks  and stay tuned! =)
